FAQ
Where is your office located?
In Woodley Park, Washington, DC, across from the main entrance to the zoo. (There is no connection.) There is a Starbucks and a 7-Eleven at the entrance to my building.
Address: 3000 Connecticut Ave., NW, Suite 210, Washington, DC 20008
Is there parking?
No. You will need to park on the street. And during the morning and evening rush, you cannot park on Connecticut Avenue. You will need to look for a side street
Is your office metro accessible?
Yes! I am halfway between the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park stops on Metro’s Redline. With the Woodley Park station comes two blocks of walking uphill, but then you get the two blocks going down on the way home. Think of it as good exercise.
Is your office handicapped accessible?
Yes. There is an elevator for your convenience.
What are your hours?
It depends on the day. I do have some evening and weekend sessions available, but they are harder to come by. If we choose to work together, we will work to find a consistent time that works for us both.
How long are your sessions?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Group sessions are 90 minutes. Couples’ sessions range from 90 minutes to 2 hours. Weekend intensives for couples are the amount of time we need to make good stuff happen.
Do you take insurance?
No, I do not. I would be considered an out-of-network provider. However, if there are benefits available to you for an out-of-network provider in your insurance plan, I will give you the receipt you need to get reimbursed. But you will need to pay me first.
In addition, I will do whatever I can to help you get back money that is yours. Insurance companies are for-profit and, therefore, like to keep your dollars in their pocket. I am available to do backflips to help you get your money back whether that is my signing a form, making a call, filling out a treatment plan, etc. You just let me know, and I will do my darnedest at no cost to you.
How do I pay you?
My assistant, Kelly, will bill you at the end of the month via email. I ask that you pay me directly by the 10th of the following month. I accept payment via PayPal, credit card, check or cash.
How do I set-up an initial appointment?
Call or email me. We will then set-up a free 20-minute phone consultation for me to get a sense of your situation to make sure I͛m able to help you. I will answer any questions you have at that time. If you then feel good about working with me as your therapist, we will schedule an initial face-to-face meeting.
How long have you been in practice?
24 years. (I have no idea how that happened!)
What age range do you work with?
You need to be able to talk. You don’t have to talk, but you need to know how to. In other words, I do not do child therapy. I work with late adolescents all the way through the adult lifespan.
Do you work with men? Women? Couples?
Yes, yes and yes! I have an array of experience with all sexes, partnership types, stages of relationship, racial and religious diversity. Difference is welcome here.
What modalities do you use?
I have a wide-berth of training and experiences to draw from. Lasting results come when brains get rewired. For this, I am a strong advocate of depth work – thus, I pull from my psychoanalytic/psychodynamic training.
But, I am not the kind of therapist that will sit for hours and watch you talk yourself in circles or do what you do at home that is not working for you and/or your relationship. I will get in there and create something new, a shift that will open you to change and possibility. Together, with my variety of change-agent skills, we will set a course that works uniquely for you to give you the ‘more’ you desire.
What professional training and experience do you have?
Here is all the boring stuff for the curious-minded:
- Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia, LPC, #1202.
- Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis
- Certified Group Psychotherapist and Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association
- Graduate of the Center for Group Studies in New York City
- Master-Certified Relational Life Therapy Coach, having trained under Terry Real in Boston.
Have you been in therapy yourself?
Of course. I couldn’t do what I do without having done so. Taking stock of my story and issues and doing my own work I consider to be a strength that I bring to my consulting room.
What kind of groups do you run in your practice?
Many. I have two ongoing, therapy groups for individual adults. (See the Group Therapy Service Page). I also run two monthly couple’s groups. I also run a monthly therapy group for therapists and a monthly supervision group for new therapists approaching licensure.
What if I live out of town? Can I still work with you as my therapist?
Absolutely! I have clients all over the country and even internationally. We can work via video conference or telephone. For couples, we can do a weekend intensive. It͛s easy to fly into one of the three major airports in the Washington DC area. We then can work for two or three days in a highly condensed yet productive venue to jump-start transformation. Give me a call and we will put together a plan that is right for your relationship.
What if I’m not ready to commit to working in therapy with you, but I want to stay in touch via your writing?
Not a problem. I am here when you are ready. Meanwhile, join my professional Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/gingersullivanpc/. Almost every day, I will send you a thought, nudge or inspiration. We can hang out there for a while until you are ready to deepen our relationship so that you can grow faster.
Is your furniture comfortable?
I think so. If not, you will tell me. And I will listen.
If I empty the tissue box, do I have to replace it?
Absolutely not. Take as many as you need. They are on the house.
What else do I need to know to make the most out of my work with you?
If I agree to work with you, I’m in. I am committed to taking you as far as you want to go in your personal, professional and relational life. However, I will only work as hard as you. After all, it͛s your life. I cannot do the work for you, but only guide you with firm yet gentle hands and heart.
So, jump in. I am right behind you all the way. Give me a call.
